Brothers jailed over park bashing death

The Texas Capitol is now filled with people from out of town. Some are still upset about the actions of a teenager on Friday night. They remember the moment. "A bunch of us stood around watching him kill the pig," said Mark Wood, a local resident. They remember the pain. They've heard about the tragedy but this is not the kind of pain they experienced. There's a strong possibility that those with the largest footprints of the tragedy can be connected to them, though we're not sure whether that's true.

The two suspects in the stabbing death of a 15-year-old boy outside Dallas park will appear in court in early October.

Travis County authorities say that a 15-year-old boy may have been the victim of a hate crime. The Austin-based Dallas Morning News reports that a 14-year-old boy is charged with murder.

At about 11:30 p.m. on April 23, two people walked onto the grounds of the Travis County park and attempted to rob a horse. The two attempted to fight the animal while it was on the grass at North High Station. They tried to get away with the horse and it ran out of its enclosure and into the grass, where it was later killed by the two teenagers. Police say they think one of the juveniles has a history of hate crimes.

Witnesses have told police that the two suspects followed the horse up and down for more than a block before they went after the pig.

Two black males approached the pig, then began kicking and stomping on the pig, which they say was tied to a fence, causing severe bleeding.

The pig's head was slashed open and they managed to get away with some of its organs.

The boy has not been caught.

The black males' parents have been charged with assault, but police are trying to get a motive to their actions. The boys were released from jail last week. It's still unclear if the victim's parents are connected.

In Osaka's tsunami emergency zone, more than 25 people died in another quake in the area on Thursday morning, the latest in a string of major quakes, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

"There are no immediate reports of injuries," it said in a statement.

A tsunami warning remained in place after the 3.3-magnitude quake.

The 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck just before 8 am (1300 GMT), as people prepared to go outside to watch the sunset and wait for a ferry from Yokohama airport. It was the second quake to hit north of Japan's main capital, on a fault of the Japanese ocean.

The quake also struck just before 6pm in Yamanashi prefecture, followed by another 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the central prefecture of Akita.

An earthquake alert was in place from 8am. Local government offices in the area received warnings of tsunamis and aftershocks. There were also reports of a tsunami in Kadena prefecture, in southern Japan.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed the country's grief and shock at the magnitude-8.1 quake, telling reporters on a short flight to Naha, the country's largest city, that "everything will be changed."

"I am extremely sad that there were people hurt or killed in this earthquake. I deeply regret such a tragedy," he said.

The governor of central Tohoku prefecture said that a second quake hit on Thursday morning in his district, after he declared a tsunami emergency.
